What are altars and what is rest?

A public installation that re-frames theory(ies) of change, a tool that often defines the (in/ex)clusions of marginalized people.

I’m inspired by Project for Public Spaces; Tricia Hershey; and ds4si’s Ideas, Arrangements, Effects.

white supremacy is rooted within public arrangements that limit the benefits public space can provide to individual, collective, and community well-being. By re-centering collective joy, rest, and placemaking, how can we reimagine public space with care?

What exists in a space of rest?

This project was installed at the City of Providence's PVD Youth Climate Summit 2022, educating the importance of social sustainability with frontline communities. Families came to engage on their terms of resting in public spaces, engaged with multi-lingual graphics, and defined their spaces of rest.

Thank you to Jennifer Recinos for helping translate materials for Spanish-speaking communities.
